The co-production model resulting from this development deal will be one of the focal points of “Spanish Fiction Contents: New Releases & Financial Opportunities”, that ICEX will run during the European Film Market in Berlin on 20 February, and in which producers Winnie Baert and Gustavo Ferrada will participate for Mediacrest.

The insurgent thriller “17 kHz” follows a group of concerned teenagers plotting to halt climate change and pursuing worldwide rebellion as the only way to save the planet’s future. The series, which will run for 3 seasons, each comprising 7 episodes, targets a young adult audience and is set in four different countries.

According to Gustavo Ferrada, head of fiction at Mediacrest, working hand in hand with Yle and Reelmedia “constitutes a milestone for Mediacrest for two reasons: firstly it lends further strength to our international outlook. Right from the outset we have created this story as a project aimed at the international market, and one which needed international partners; and secondly, following on from this, because we are working with partners from Finland, a country apparently so culturally different from Spain, but with whom we share enthusiasm, a shared vision and the need to address the series’ central theme”.

Creators, Carlos Molinero and Paula Sánchez, highlight that “17kHz” deals with a pressing issue today, climate change, “from a fresh perspective: this is an extreme thriller that makes us question ourselves, putting young people against adults for the planet’s salvation”.

Mediacrest is a Spanish production company based in Barcelona and Madrid which has already signed deals in fiction and entertainment with ViX, Dynamo, Freemantle, Maria Wood, ITV, NHK and Viacom.
