Elvira Lindo joins Mediacrest in the audiovisual project of the adaptation of “Nada”

The award-winning author will lead the “Nada” panel in Conecta Fiction, on the challenges of adapting a literary icon.

Today, the author and screenwriter Elvira Lindo is presenting her work on the series adaptation of the novel “Nada”, by Carmen Laforet, at the Conecta Fiction festival in Pamplona. Elvira Lindo, who has been working on the adaptation for many months, joins the project being developed by Mediacrest, after the company acquired the rights to one of the most important Spanish literary works of the 20th century, awarded the Nadal prize in 1944. 


Elvira Lindo will lead the panel “Nada, the challenges of adapting a literary icon”, together with Daniel Domenjó, Mediacrest’s executive director, and Alberto Macías, head of the production company’s fiction department. The panel, chaired by the journalist Leire Escalada, will address Elvira Lindo’s work on the adaptation and importance of literary adaptations as a source of success stories in the audiovisual sector. 


In an interview in the radio programme La Ventana de La Ser, Daniel Domenjó explained that “Nada is the jewel in Mediacrest’s crown. Adapting novels like this, with first-class professionals is part of the production company’s DNA. The idea came from Francisco Pou, the CEO of Mediacrest: a few years back we contacted Carmen Laforet’s rights holders and we are now very close to making this project a reality.”


Alberto Macías, whose decision it was to bring Elvira Lindo on board, stated that “the greatest challenge in adapting ‘Nada’ stems from the fact that it is a difficult novel because it is a great novel, written by a 23-year-old woman and very much in the first person. It is a highly personal story, yet it is also a strongly universal one.” 


For her part, Elvira Lindo spoke about the great challenge posed by the adaptation of “Nada,” since “bringing an image to a literary story is an extremely hard task. We don’t want this to be a vision of the 40s in sepia, because staying faithful to ‘Nada’ means creating something contemporary, based on a novel that still touches readers’ hearts.”


At this moment in time, with literary adaptations experiencing a surge in popularity thanks to the big streaming platforms and the constant demand for quality content, the “Nada” project reflects Mediacrest’s drive for excellence and quality and its promotion of Spain’s cultural heritage.
